Accuracy is a continuing obligation. Send a possible factual error to [email protected]. Include the article URL, disputed passage, supporting evidence, and a reliable way to contact you if clarification is needed.
How we review a correction
The responsible desk editor checks the published claim against the original source record and any new evidence. Helena Ward, Managing Editor, coordinates material corrections across desks. We distinguish a factual error from a difference of interpretation, a routine update, or a request to suppress accurate reporting.
Correction types
- Correction: A factual error that materially affects accuracy or meaning.
- Clarification: Accurate wording that could reasonably create a misleading impression.
- Update: New verified information in a developing story.
- Editor note: Additional transparency about a substantial editorial decision.
Visibility
Material corrections are noted in the article and receive an updated timestamp. We do not silently rewrite a consequential error. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting, or link repairs may be corrected without a note when they do not alter meaning.
Escalation and removal
If a correction request concerns a publication-wide standard or remains unresolved after desk review, send an editorial appeal to [email protected]. Published material is not normally removed because it is unflattering or inconvenient. Removal may be considered for legal necessity, serious safety or privacy concerns, demonstrably false material that cannot be adequately corrected, or content published in error.
