Russian ballistic missile and drone strikes across multiple Ukrainian regions killed at least eight people, including children, on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The overnight blitz coincided with a separate airspace violation in Poland, where NATO scrambled fighter jets after a Kh-101 cruise missile crossed the border.
The extensive overnight bombardment struck at least 10 Ukrainian regions, destroying homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. The coordinated barrage involved more than 70 missiles and over 280 attack drones launched by Moscow forces.
Civilian Toll in Dnipropetrovsk
The heaviest loss of life occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where six people were killed and 10 others wounded. In Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown, a direct hit from a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile destroyed the home of a large family.
Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration, confirmed that the dead included a six-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 17. The children’s parents also died in the strike, though rescue workers managed to pull two additional children alive from beneath the wreckage.

In the capital city of Kyiv, ballistic missile strikes killed a 31-year-old man and wounded two others, damaging residential properties, storage spaces, and a local market. More than 56,000 residents sought refuge in the city’s underground subway stations during the overnight air raid.
Air Strikes Extend West to Lviv and Poltava
The bombardment stretched far from the eastern front lines toward Ukraine’s western territories.
In the Poltava region, a drone strike hit company warehouses and killed one person, according to regional military head Vitalii Diakivnych. In the southern city of Kherson, local officials reported that Russian forces dropped three powerful glide bombs on an industrial zone, killing a 56-year-old man.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the operation targeted Ukrainian air bases, arms factories, and military logistics facilities. Among the listed targets were drone manufacturing plants, missile facilities, aircraft repair depots, and chemical processing sites.
NATO Scrambles Jets as Missile Crosses Polish Airspace
The overnight onslaught also triggered a security response in neighbouring Poland. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that a Russian cruise missile crossed the border into Polish airspace, calling it an urgent reminder that European security depends on reinforcing Ukraine’s air defences.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces tracked the westward-moving object and scrambled an F-16 fighter jet to intercept it. The projectile disappeared from radar screens before pilots could visually identify it, but a military helicopter later located a probable impact site in a farming area near Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin province. Polish news agency PAP reported that investigators found fragments indicating the fallen object was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the border breach as a very serious incident, though he noted there was no indication that Poland was the intentional target. NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, conferred with Poland’s Chief of Defence, General Wiesław Kukulan. NATO activated both ground and air defences, with alliance officials emphasizing that all necessary measures will be taken to defend alliance territory.
Air Defense Shortages and International Aid Disbursal
The massive strike followed warnings from Zelenskyy, who had cautioned that a large-scale attack was imminent upon returning from the United States. During his Washington visit, Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump and American defense executives to press for accelerated deliveries of Patriot air defense batteries.
Ukraine faces a severe shortage of PAC-3 interceptor missiles, a deficit exacerbated by the ongoing conflict involving the U.S. and Iran that has drained American stockpiles. While Trump previously expressed willingness to license Ukraine to manufacture surface-to-air missiles domestically, setting up production lines will take considerable time.
