Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrived at the property, confirmed that the blogger was alone inside, and coordinated with a crisis response team and licensed mental health professionals. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Lavandeira was safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
The legislation permits an involuntary psychiatric evaluation lasting up to 72 hours for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. A representative for the sheriff’s office emphasized that deputies prioritized de-escalation techniques designed to slow down the situation, minimize injury risks, and create opportunities for communication.
TikTok Confirms Moderator Error and Policy Violations
The broadcast immediately ignited intense public concern over how the platform handled the disturbing imagery. WIRED reported that viewers watched as the livestream continued without immediate intervention, leading to speculation that the broadcast remained accessible for upwards of 30 minutes. TikTok US spokesperson Jamie Favazza pushed back against those timeline estimates, stating that the broadcast lasted for approximately 15 minutes.
According to TikTok, TikTok’s automated moderation systems flagged the video within minutes and routed it to United States moderation teams. However, a moderator error
caused a delay in removing the stream and executing the subsequent account ban. Favazza confirmed that the platform alerted law enforcement shortly after the automated flag occurred and removed subsequent streams initiated by Hilton within 90 seconds.
TikTok’s community guidelines strictly forbid content that depicts, promotes, or instructs suicide or self-harm, alongside excessively graphic or violent material. While the company integrated a newly formed joint venture in January to oversee data security and content moderation in the United States, the incident renewed severe criticism regarding the consistency of moderation enforcement across live features.
