Oklahoma Braces for Severe Storms and Tornado Risk Monday

KOCO reported that Oklahoma is bracing for a complex weather setup featuring storms and tornado threats that will develop across the state from late Sunday night into Monday morning, with storms, tornado risks.

Storm System Moves Across Oklahoma Bringing Severe Weather

KOCO 5 Meteorologist Joseph Neubauer stated that the upcoming severe weather will originate from a storm system tracking out of the Oklahoma Panhandle, Texas, and New Mexico late Sunday night and into Monday morning. Temperatures in the mid-50s to lower 60s will accompany patchy fog and light drizzle anticipated for Saturday evening. Tonight marks the end of daylight saving time, granting an extra hour of sleep and shifting the sunset to 5:34 p.m.

As the sun comes up Monday morning, projections show windy storms potentially sparking in northwest Oklahoma, which will then give way to an upper-level low and a major cold front over central Oklahoma. There is a level two out of five threat level for severe storms to develop, alongside the possibility of tornadoes.

Storms are expected to form in western Oklahoma after 4 a.m. Monday, with a lull in activity during the late morning and early afternoon. Monday west of Interstate 35 could bring hail up to golf ball size, 70 mph winds, and the potential for tornadoes. The storms will eventually congeal into a line, creating brief tornado spin-ups along a frontal boundary.

Transition to Fall Weather

Storms are anticipated to shift into eastern Oklahoma by Monday night, with the severe weather window running from 3 p.m. until late Monday evening. A robust front will arrive by Tuesday, ushering in autumn-like conditions for the opening full week of November.
