Union Home Minister Amit Shah challenged opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav on October 30, 2026, to debate electoral roll revisions during a special session of Parliament. The challenge comes ahead of an INDIA bloc public impeachment rally targeting Chief Election Gyanesh Kumar.
Amit Shah Challenges Opposition to a Special Parliamentary Session
Central Home Minister Amit Shah issued a direct challenge to Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, inviting them to debate the special intensive revision of electoral rolls inside Parliament. Speaking at the Uttar Pradesh BJP state executive committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah dismissed opposition allegations regarding the poll process as entirely groundless.
The minister contended that rather than engaging in legislative debate, opposition figures prefer staging demonstrations on the streets. He asserted that the ruling party has nothing to hide and stands fully prepared for a dedicated parliamentary sitting.
The INDIA Bloc Prepares for Public Impeachment and Ramlila Maidan Rally
The parliamentary challenge arrives directly ahead of major opposition demonstrations directed at Chief Election Gyanesh Kumar. The INDIA bloc originally planned a mock parliament before reframing it as a public impeachment event. Originally scheduled for Friday, the program was postponed by twenty-four hours due to rainfall and adverse weather conditions in Delhi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to present the impeachment motion during the rescheduled proceedings at his residence at 10 Rajaji Marg, where two voters whose names were dropped from the SIR lists will also speak.

Following that gathering, the opposition coalition will stage a large-scale public rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1. Rahul Gandhi publicly invited political and non-political figures, social service workers, civil society members, and journalists to attend. At the same time, opposition leaders alleged that central authorities are attempting to block members and general citizens from traveling to Delhi from states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana, and Punjab.
Electoral Reverses and the Debate Over Vote Chori Allegations
Tracing the roots of the current standoff, Amit Shah argued that opposition parties have turned to vote chori accusations because recent electoral outcomes have left them without prospects for victory. Pointing to recent political results, Shah noted that the BJP secured government formation in Haryana, expanded its NDA seat share in Maharashtra, installed a BJP Chief Minister in Bihar for the first time, and formed a government in Delhi after three decades.

Criticizing the opposition’s response to these setbacks, Shah offered a sports analogy.
Naturally, when a team loses a match or a game, they should sit down and practice more—that is what is expected, isn’t it? But Rahul Baba is cut from a different cloth. The same goes for Akhilesh and others in the ‘INDIA’ alliance who are with him. Instead of accepting defeat, they began accusing the umpire of cheating, claiming that votes were stolen.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra dismissed travel-blockade claims as absolute falsehoods, challenging the opposition to provide proof regarding who was stopped and where. Meanwhile, the rescheduled public impeachment session proceeds under the presidency of former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, setting the stage for Sunday’s capital-wide demonstration.
