The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series title in franchise history on October 28, 2026, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field. The victory capped a 4-1 series win for the Brewers, who ended a 57-year wait for baseball’s biggest prize.
Milwaukee’s path to the trophy was a display of relentless efficiency. After a narrow Game 1 win and a comeback victory in Game 2, the Brewers routed the Rays 10-1 in Game 3. While a heartbreaking 4-3 extra-inning loss in Game 4 on October 27 momentarily delayed the coronation, the Brewers rebounded Wednesday night to secure the championship.
The Brewers entered the World Series after a dominant 103-59 regular season in the National League. Their postseason journey included dispatching the San Diego Padres in a tight division series and sweeping the two-time champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the LCS. By winning the World Series, they joined the 1976 Big Red Machine
Cincinnati Reds as the only clubs to sweep both the LCS and World Series in succession since the LCS became a best-of-seven format in 1985.

Jacob Misiorowski Dominates in Game 5 Clincher
The championship game was defined by a dominant performance from Jacob Misiorowski. Misiorowski threw five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He opened the game with 12 straight four-seamers ranging between 100.9 and 103 mph, having already broken the World Series velocity record with a 103.5 mph fastball earlier in the series. Misiorowski eventually left the game with a right calf cramp, an issue that had forced him out of two outings earlier in the season.
Offensively, rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt continued a hot streak, recording two hits and two RBIs. Pratt provided the early momentum with an RBI single in the second inning against Rays ace Drew Rasmussen. The Brewers eventually built a lead, supported by an RBI double from catcher William Contreras and a sacrifice fly by Pratt. Pratt, who is under contract through 2033, had previously recorded four hits in Game 4, including a tiebreaking solo home run in the 12th inning.

The Rays, who won an American League-best 98 games, suffered their third World Series defeat after previous losses in 2008 and 2020. Of the 26 teams to fall behind 3-0 in a World Series, 21 were swept; Tampa Bay became the fifth to lose in Game 5.
The Historic Two-Out Outburst in Game 3
While Game 5 provided the closure, Game 3 served as the series’ most demoralizing blow to Tampa Bay. The Brewers scored eight runs in the fifth inning with two outs, the most two-out runs ever recorded in a single inning in World Series history. Remarkably, the Brewers scored all 10 of their runs in that game without hitting a single home run.

I was ready, and I wanted to win today. I knew that us winning this game today, it was a big one and it was going to be a big one for us.
Jackson Chourio, Brewers player
Peralta noted that the Brewers were simply waiting for good pitches rather than trying to hit home runs.
The Brewers also utilized the ABS Challenge System effectively, with catcher William Contreras successfully challenging four ball-strike calls in a single game. Contreras was named the Willie Mays World Series MVP, finishing the series with four RBIs and eight hits in 23 at-bats (.381).

Brewers Win First Title Since 1957
This title marks the first World Series championship for the franchise since it began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and moved to Milwaukee in 1970. The city’s last World Series winner was in 1957. The Brewers’ only other World Series appearance occurred in 1982, where they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games after blowing a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning of Game 7.
The victory carries institutional weight for owner Mark Attanasio, who bought the team in 2005. The Brewers and Rays represented the first World Series since 1991 to feature two teams from the bottom half of league payrolls. As of August 31, the Brewers ranked 19th in payroll and the Rays 25th.

“The two things I didn’t want to hear,” he said, “was, ‘We’re too small’ or, ‘We can’t do this.’”

The team’s resilience was a hallmark of manager Pat Murphy. The 67-year-old Murphy, who survived a heart attack in 2020, was the NL Manager of the Year in 2024 and 2025. Murphy stated that the 2026 team will be remembered forever
because they were a cohesive unit.
