The shift is evident in the club’s active targets and completed business. Chelsea announced their British-record signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117m, alongside the £47m acquisition of Italy defender Marco Palestra. At the same time, the club managed several departures, including Marc Cucurella moving to Real Madrid for £52m, Andrey Santos joining Manchester United for £48m, and Tyrique George transferring to Everton for £24m.

Chelsea are exploring a move for England defender John Stones on a free transfer after his ten-year contract at Manchester City expired this summer, Yahoo Sports reports. Stones, 32, made only 20 league appearances across his last two campaigns due to injury struggles, but he demonstrated his fitness and quality by starting in England’s knockout matches against Norway and Argentina at the World Cup in the United States.
Stones would bring significant title-winning credentials to the Stamford Bridge dressing room, having collected six Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, and the Club World Cup during his time at City. The pursuit of older, ready-made talent also included attempts to sign 33-year-old midfielder Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, though the Black Cats refused to sell their Switzerland captain.
Defensive Additions and Crystal Palace Interest
Beyond the interest in Stones, Chelsea have maintained a long-standing desire to add a new centre-back, having previously pushed to sign Jérémy Jacquet from Rennes in January before he joined Liverpool.
