For Mohamed Yasser Ali Mohamed Marei, securing the fifth spot nationwide in the science-and-mathematics stream required a drastic digital detox. A resident of the village of Tohouh Tanbasha in the Berket El Saba center of the Menofia governorate, the top student explained that he did not own a smartphone and refused to create social media accounts throughout his entire academic year, and that he did not create accounts on “Facebook” until after the exams ended.

That deliberate isolation paid off when the results were finalized. His father, Yasser Marei, stated that his feeling after the result was announced was indescribable, explaining that he and his son entered into a severe crying fit as soon as the result was confirmed. While the family anticipated university admission into an engineering program, and he expected him to join the Faculty of Engineering, he did not expect him to be among the republic’s top students. His father affirmed that he was hardworking and committed throughout the entire year, adding that the only advice he repeated to his son was “Fear God”, confirming that he did not demand that he study, but rather urged him to maintain prayer and read the Quran, considering that commitment and diligence, alongside prayer and study, are the basis of success.

Meanwhile, his mother confirmed that her son did not complain about the difficulty of the exams and would return home repeating Praise be to God in all circumstances. She pointed out that she constantly prayed for him from Asr until Maghrib, and had a feeling that he would receive a call from the Minister of Education. She added that she collapsed in tears of joy when the result was announced, confirming that he deserves this success because he is committed and polite and did not cause her any trouble. She explained that he has been among the top students since the primary stage, and advised parents not to put pressure on their children, and that the student should be aware of his goal, confirming that success is not linked to excessive lessons, but rather to the student’s diligence and knowledge of his weaknesses and working to develop them.

In an interview via “Al-Watan TV, Mohamed Yasser addressed a message to his parents saying:إن كلمة شكرًا لا تكفي، لأنهما قدما له كل ما يستطيعان من أجل إسعاده، والحمد لله أنه استطاع أن يفرحهما”.

Family Support and Long-Term Preparation in Alexandria

Further north amidst great joy that engulfed his family’s home in the Agami area west of Alexandria, another high-scoring student celebrated a similar milestone. Saif El-Din Waseem Saad, a student at General Mohamed Naguib Official Language School under the Agami Educational Administration, captured eighth place nationwide in the same science-and-mathematics division with a score of 318.5 degrees, according to Al-Ahram, crowning a full year of effort and persistence by standing among the list of the republic’s top students.

Reflecting on the milestone in a statement to “Al-Ahram Gate”, Saif El-Din explained that the moment of announcing the result was one of the happiest moments in his life, confirming that he felt great joy after finding his name among the list of high school top students, noting that this success came after a long period of fatigue, diligence, and continuous studying. The top student added that his family was his greatest supporter throughout the academic year, as they provided him with all means of comfort and stability, and were a source of encouragement and motivation in difficult times, confirming that this achievement could not have been attained without their continuous support.

Reflecting further on his journey, Saif El-Din clarified that obtaining an advanced position in high school was not born of the final year alone, but came as a result of his interest in excellence since various study years, as he used to be among distinguished students, which helped him gain experience, organize time, and prepare well for the exams. He pointed out that this year’s exams required a large amount of concentration, especially in some subjects that he described as needing extra thought and effort, primarily the Arabic language and chemistry, confirming that he dealt with them through continuous review and organizing study hours.

Chasing Childhood Ambitions in Engineering

Both top achievers now share a common academic horizon centered on technical higher education. Saif El-Din stated that his primary goal is to join the Faculty of Engineering, explaining that this dream has accompanied him for years, especially since he was influenced by his father, who graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Alexandria University. The eighth student on the republic level said that he has loved the engineering field since the preparatory stage, and always wished to walk in this path, expressing his happiness at the approaching realization of his dream and starting a new phase of his scientific life.

Concluding his remarks, Saif El-Din sent a message of thanks to his family, confirming that they were his true support throughout the study period, and that their continuous support and encouragement had a major role in reaching this position among the republic’s top students. The top student concluded by affirming that he seeks during the coming period to continue excellence inside the Faculty of Engineering, and to be able to offer something that benefits his society and homeland through the field he chose.

Meanwhile, parents of the high-achieving students offered practical guidance for families navigating the rigorous national examination cycle. Mohamed Yasser’s mother advised parents to avoid placing excessive pressure on students, emphasizing that true academic success stems from a student understanding their individual weaknesses and working deliberately to overcome them rather than relying solely on heavy tutoring.
