OpenAI’s hardware ambitions are stepping out of the developer workspace and into the living room. Rather than sitting as a static accessory, the device is engineered to act as a humanlike companion that lives in the home. The project is the first major consumer hardware product emerging from io, the startup OpenAI acquired from former Apple chief design officer Jony Ive for $6.5bn last year.
