Equities in Japan closed higher at the end of trading on Friday, lifted by advances in sectors including real estate, banking, and textiles. The benchmark Nikkei 225 recorded an increase of 3.86% by the time trading concluded in Tokyo. Market breadth showed participation across the exchange, with advancing stocks narrowly outpacing declining issues. Specifically, 1,780 stocks closed higher in Tokyo compared to 1,744 that finished on the downside, while 224 issues remained unchanged.
Individual corporate performers posted notable swings during the session. Among the leaders on the Nikkei 225 index, Ibiden Co Ltd gained 21.98%, or 3,000.00 points, to settle at 16,650.00 at the close. Panasonic Corp added 19.53%, rising 700.00 points to finish at 4,284.00. Kioxia Holdings Corp climbed 17.72%, or 7,000.00 points, to reach 46,500.00 at the final bell. On the opposing side, Nomura Research Institute Ltd dropped 15.96% or 890.00 points to trade at 4,686.00 at the close. Konica Minolta, Inc. declined 14.48% to 590.80, and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. fell 11.13% to close at 2,567.50.
Wall Street Indexes Finish Higher in New York Trading
Across the Atlantic, major United States stock indexes wrapped up their session in positive territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 72.66 points, or roughly 0.39 percent, to settle at 18,491.96 points. The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 9.12 points, or 0.42 percent, closing at 2,179.98 points. Meanwhile, the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 22.69 points, or 0.43 percent, ending the day at 5,249.90 points.
Currency and Commodity Movements Accompany Global Trading Session
International currency and commodity markets experienced shifts alongside the equity gains. The USD/JPY currency pair added 0.50% to trade at 160.33, while the EUR/JPY pair advanced 0.40% to reach 184.65. Implied volatility for the Nikkei 225 options market ticked upward, with the volatility measure rising 0.68% to close at 39.79.
Energy and precious metals markets moved downward during the trading period. Futures contracts for September delivery fell 1.65% to settle at $82.21 per barrel. Separate commodity contracts scheduled for October delivery dropped 1.36% to $85.70 per barrel, while August precious metals contracts recorded a 0.60% decrease to finish at $4,075.35 per ounce.
