Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has hosted international leaders, regional officials, and citizens at Lusail Palace to receive condolences.
Diplomatic Delegations and Official Mourning
King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and regional heads of state attend first day of mourning
The mourning period began on Monday, July 13, 2026, following the late Amir’s passing. On the first day, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Other high-level attendees on the first day included the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah; Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif; the President of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa; the Head of Government of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch; and the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.
On the second day, Tuesday, July 14, the Emir continued to host heads of state and government. Attendees included Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Union of the Comoros Othman Ghazali, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Emir also received Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and global dignitaries conclude final day of condolences
On the third day, Wednesday, July 15, the Emir received the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavilashvili, and his accompanying delegation. Other notable figures included the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier; the Prime Minister of France, Sébastien Lecornu; the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Adelbek Kassymaliyev; the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Harini Amarasuriya; the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Sulaimon Ziyozoda; and the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Eduardo Martínez. Additionally, the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, attended alongside a delegation including Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi and Ahmed bin Saud Al Qasimi. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, was also among the guests on the final day of formal mourning.

Sheikha Moza bint Nasser publishes tribute to the late Father Amir
The reception of condolences at Lusail Palace involved senior members of the Qatari ruling family. Those in attendance alongside the Emir included Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, the Personal Representative of the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Emir also accepted condolences from sheikhs, ministers, dignitaries, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Qatar.
Public and Digital Response
A post shared by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, wife of the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa and mother of the current Emir, drew significant public attention. Her tribute, which quoted the Quranic verse, O soul that art at rest, return to your Lord, well-pleased with Him, well-pleasing to Him, gained over two million views on the platform X within a single day. On Facebook, the same message received tens of thousands of interactions and comments. In her statement, she described the late ruler as “Qatar’s historical leader” and noted that he was ascending to an eternal status as the pioneer of the modern State of Qatar.
International Recognition
Throughout the mourning period, the Emir also received numerous telephone calls from world leaders expressing their sympathy. Among those who reached out was the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who offered his condolences to the Emir, the ruling family, and the Qatari people. Additionally, representatives from international organizations, such as Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, were received at the palace to offer their formal respects.
