88-40: Alabama Women's Basketball Dominates Final Exhibition Game

Alabama Dominates Mississippi Christian 88-40 in Preseason Finale

The Alabama women’s basketball team rolled past Mississippi Christian 88-40 in its final exhibition game on Tuesday night inside Coleman Coliseum, finishing the preseason undefeated before opening the regular season on Monday, November 2. The Crimson Tide seized total control of the matchup by outscoring the Choctaws 40-10 in the paint.

Ace Austin led all scorers with 21 points while shooting 4-of-8 from the three-point line and adding nine assists. Tianna Chambers chipped in 16 points, and Naomi Jones contributed 10 points alongside five blocked shots. Aaliyah Roberson anchored the boards, securing a game-high 10 rebounds to help the Tide outrebound Mississippi Christian 61-31.

Inside the Numbers of a Lopsided Preseason Rout

Alabama’s depth proved overwhelming as all 12 available players saw floor time and recorded at least one statistic. The Crimson Tide shot 52 percent from the floor on 33-of-64 shooting, hitting 9-of-23 from deep. Meanwhile, Mississippi Christian struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the length of the Tide, finishing 14-of-68 from the field for 21 percent and converting just 5-of-33 attempts from beyond the arc.

The defensive intensity showed clearly in the second quarter when Alabama blanked the Choctaws for a stretch of 5 minutes and 43 seconds, turning a comfortable cushion into a 46-23 halftime advantage. That defensive posture allowed the Tide to transition quickly, building a 24-7 edge in fastbreak points while collecting 24 total assists on 33 made baskets.

“I think this exhibition game showed us where we are and the things we need to work on. There were sometimes where I thought that we could have been better, especially defensively, but that’s why you have the exhibition games, and we just build on it.”

With the exhibition slate officially in the rearview mirror, head coach and squad turn their attention directly to the regular season opener scheduled for Monday, November 2, where these early rotations and defensive adjustments will face their first official test.
