A woman was shot Thursday afternoon directly outside the Republican Party of Virginia headquarters in downtown Richmond, prompting an immediate emergency response just days before the midterm elections, Fox News reported.
The gunfire erupted around 1:45 p.m. in front of The Obenshain Center situated in the 100 block of East Grace Street, according to local outlet WTVR. First responders arrived at the location within minutes of the incident, and party officials quickly confirmed that all staff members inside the building were safe.
Virginia GOP Staff Remain Safe After Shooting
In a public statement shared on X, the Virginia GOP addressed the proximity of the shooting to its headquarters while clarifying that staff members were unharmed. “City of Richmond first responders were at the scene within minutes. All Republican Party of Virginia staff are safe,” the party post read.
Party officials also noted that there was no initial evidence linking the violence to the building’s political tenants. “The proximity of this event notwithstanding, we have no indication that the shooting was related to the operations of the Republican Party of Virginia,” the statement continued.

Police Investigate Shooting Ahead of Midterm Elections
The shooting unfolds with less than a week remaining before the November 3 midterm elections, a period when voters across Virginia and the nation prepare to cast ballots. Despite the timing and the prominent downtown location, the exact circumstances surrounding the gunfire remain unclear.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding what precipitated the shooting or the current medical condition of the victim. The Richmond Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital as the investigation remains an active, developing story.
