Beshear and Vilsack Step Up for Sand in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa — Just hours after President Donald Trump visited Iowa, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and former Iowa Gov. and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack joined Rob Sand on stage for a rally in Des Moines.
“I’ve seen the polls, you’ve seen the polls, they look great,” Sand told the crowd. “They’ve been wrong before. We’re not gonna take it for granted. We cannot take it for granted. We have come too far. The alternative is four more years of one party control.”
Beshear, who serves as the chair of the Democratic Governors Association and is viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender, used his time at the podium to broaden the scope of the momentum. “Are you ready to flip the U.S. House,” Beshear asked the audience. “Are you ready to flip the U.S. Senate. Are you ready to win this governor’s race. And after we do all that, in 2028, are you ready for a Democratic president.”
The Democratic Governors Association is fully committed to Sand, Beshear noted, noting that the organization has allocated upwards of $10 million toward his election.

Vilsack Contrasts Campaign Styles During Iowa Rally
Vilsack emphasized that an Iowa vote for Sand would project a wider national message regarding the style of campaigning voters expect. Vilsack focused his remarks on positive voter engagement. “Where people talk about the issues, where people are not tearing other folks down but lifting everyone up,” Vilsack said, highlighting agendas founded on transparency, compassion, and turning away from corruption.
While Democratic leaders rallied in Des Moines, Sand’s Republican opponent, Zach Lahn, spent Sunday night campaigning in Dubuque alongside President Trump.
