Springfield Healthcare Access at Baystate Mercy Hospital
Patients and families across western Massachusetts facing acute medical needs look to Baystate Mercy Hospital as a core regional resource. Located in the heart of Springfield, the 182-bed acute care facility delivers emergency care, surgical services, specialty care, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services. The hospital combines experienced physicians, nurses, and care teams to coordinate clinical services close to home.
Accessing the Springfield campus involves specific logistics for patients, visitors, and employees. Baystate Mercy Hospital provides free convenient parking with accessible spaces near hospital entrances and medical offices. A complimentary campus shuttle operates Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For public transit users, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) services the hospital across Greater Springfield, alongside a specialized van service for passengers unable to use standard buses due to a disability.
Visiting Policies and Campus Services
Daily visiting hours run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a limit of three visitors at one time. One designated support person is permitted to stay 24 hours per day throughout the patient stay. Sensitive units, however, maintain tighter restrictions. Secure Welcome entry points govern units such as the Women’s Evaluation and Treatment Unit (WETU), Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR), Postpartum, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Baystate Children’s Hospital Children’s & Adolescents Unit (CHAD), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Adult Psychiatric Treatment Unit (APTU), BFMC Behavioral Health Unit, and Critical Care Units.

Infection prevention guidelines remain active across the facility. Masking is highly encouraged in patient rooms, care areas, and common spaces. Visitors experiencing symptoms of respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 or influenza, or those with recent exposure, must wear masks or postpone their visits. Specific timelines dictate return eligibility: visitors recovering from influenza must be asymptomatic, fever-free, and seven days past symptom onset, while COVID-19 cases require ten days past symptom onset.
On-site amenities include the hospital cafeteria on the ground floor, open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a brief closure from 10:45 to 11 a.m. Beyond the Springfield main campus, Baystate Health extends its reach through a network of more than 80 practices offering primary care and medical specialties throughout western Massachusetts.
