Honoring Leadership on and off the Diamond at Mississippi State
Mississippi State head baseball coach Brian O’Connor is set to receive the John Robert Arnold Champion for Scouting Award, recognizing his civic service to communities through the Scouting program, supertalk.fm reported. The recognition highlights individuals who guide youth through local Scouting initiatives, aiming to instill values that build leaders and successful individuals.
The honor will be presented during a luncheon scheduled for Nov. 25 at Mississippi State, according to supertalk.fm. The event, known as the “Thankful for Scouting” luncheon and reception, will raise funds for the Natchez Trace Council of Scouting program and northeast Mississippi, offering sponsors an opportunity to meet and interact with the coach.
Building a Program Around Discipline and Character
Natchez Trace Council president Sid Salter of Starkville spoke to the coach’s dedication to youth development.

Coach Brian O’Connor is an outstanding individual who has invested his life in leadership development for young people at the very highest level. Mississippi and MSU benefit daily from his commitment to building a baseball program that reflects discipline, service, and character, and we are grateful to him for taking time to lead this fundraising effort for the Scouting program in northeast Mississippi.
Salter added, We are particularly proud that this event is being held here in the Golden Triangle to benefit local Scouts and Cubs.
O’Connor came to Starkville after a distinguished tenure at the University of Virginia. During his 22 years in Charlottesville, he led the Cavaliers to 18 NCAA tournament appearances, compiling a 917-388-2 overall record. His resume features nine super regionals, seven College World Series trips, and the program’s first national championship in 2015.
