Brightside Theatre Seeks Actors for Upcoming Concert Production
Brightside Theatre is looking for actors to fill two specific roles for its upcoming concert production of The Secret Garden, offering a $175 stipend for the engagement.
The company is casting for Colin Craven and Fakir in the musical, which features a book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Jeffrey Cass is directing the production, with Phil Videckis serving as musical director.
Performers Needed for Colin Craven and Fakir Roles
The role of Colin Craven is open to performers who identify as male and are around 10 years old, with a treble or boy soprano voice. The character is Archibald’s sheltered and sickly young son, whose friendship with Mary awakens his confidence, curiosity, and joy. The actor cast in this role will perform Saturday matinees and cover the Friday and Saturday evening performances as well as Sunday matinees.
Producers are also seeking a performer who identifies as male, of Asian Indian descent, to play Fakir as a tenor. In the story, Fakir serves as a mystical figure from Mary’s life in India, evoking the world she has lost and connecting her past with her new life.
Rehearsals Run Through December and January
Rehearsals are scheduled for evenings from December 6 through December 10, and again from January 3 through January 6. Not every cast member is called for every rehearsal. The dress rehearsal takes place on the evening of January 7, and producers note that no rehearsal conflicts will be accepted for the dress rehearsal or any performances.
Performances Take Place at Madden Theatre
All performances will be held at the Madden Theatre on the campus of North Central College, located at 171 Chicago Ave. in Naperville. The eight-performance run opens on January 8, 2027, and closes on January 17, 2027, with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
Submission Guidelines for Interested Performers
Interested performers should submit a headshot, resume, and a link to a one-minute video of themselves singing in the style of the show to info@brightsidetheatre.com.
