Christ Episcopal Church to Host Violin and Piano Recital in Newton
On Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m., a free violin and piano recital showcasing pieces by Chopin, Beethoven, Arvo Pärt and Amy Beach will take place at Christ Episcopal Church in Newton.
The concert, titled “Evening Song: Music of Beethoven, Chopin, Amy Beach and Arvo Pärt,” will feature violinist Nicholas Currie and pianist Diana Greene. The two musicians have performed together for 20 years, releasing two albums: Beethoven, Brahms, and Kreisler in 2010 and String Break in 2014.
Nicholas Currie holds the positions of principal second violin for the Maryland Lyric Opera Orchestra and associate concertmaster for the Annapolis Symphony. Greene works locally as the organist and pianist at Christ Episcopal Church in Newton.
Chris Streeter Invites Residents to Enjoy Classical Music
The Rev. Chris Streeter, rector of Christ Church Newton, noted that the recital offers residents a chance to experience live classical music in an accessible setting.
“Music connects us more deeply to the beauty and wonder of God’s creation. I am delighted that Diana and Nicholas are offering their talents, and that Christ Church creates space in our community where this caliber of musicianship is celebrated. I hope that those who don’t normally spend Sunday mornings here will consider joining us for this exceptional concert.”
— The Rev. Chris Streeter, Rector, Christ Church Newton
The performance is free and open to the public, though a freewill offering will be collected during the event. A reception in the church’s parish hall will follow the performance, giving attendees a chance to gather.
Christ Episcopal Church is located at 62 Main St. in Newton. Additional information about the recital is available by calling 973-383-2245 or by visiting the Christ Church Newton website.
