Eighty-One Years of Football: Colorado State Travels to Utah State for Halloween Matchup

For the 81st time in a series stretching back more than a century, Colorado State and Utah State will meet on the gridiron this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM MT at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah, with television coverage provided by USA Sports.

The Rams enter the matchup holding a 3-4 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play, while the Aggies sit at 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference standings. Saturday’s contest marks one of the longest-running series in Colorado State history, trailing only the annual Border War rivalry against Wyoming. The historic pairing first kicked off in 1902 and has traversed six different conferences over the decades, spanning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Mountain States and Skyline Conference, the Western Athletic Conference, the Mountain West, and now the rebuilt Pac-12.

Colorado State Leads Series but Struggles on Halloween

Colorado State holds a narrow 40-38-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Rams claimed the last meeting in 2024 with a 42-37 victory in Fort Collins, engineered by a dramatic 29-point fourth-quarter comeback.

This weekend’s game falls squarely on Halloween. Historically, the date has proven unkind to Colorado State, which carries a 5-15 all-time record on October 31. The Rams have faced Utah State twice previously on Halloween, winning both of those prior holiday meetings, though only one of their five total wins on the date has occurred since the 1970s.

Looking Ahead to Canvas Stadium

Following Saturday’s contest in Logan, Colorado State returns home to Fort Collins for a matchup against Boise State. The game, designated as part of the program’s “Snow Days” promotion, is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at 4:00 PM MT at Canvas Stadium and will be broadcast on USA Sports.
