Jim Standard Returns to Hall Booth Smith in Atlanta
James “Jim” Standard has returned to Hall Booth Smith, P.C. as Of Counsel in the firm’s Atlanta office, bringing over 28 years of legal experience to his practice in corporate law, business transactions, and litigation, hallboothsmith.com reported. Standard previously spent more than a decade with the full-service firm, where he led the transactional and business litigation practice group and served on the management committee.
His practice spans corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, tax matters, reorganizations, divestitures, and financing arrangements. Throughout his career, Standard has represented companies across multiple sectors, including transportation and logistics, manufacturing, financial services, health care, telecommunications, and environmental services.
“We are delighted to welcome Jim back,” said Alex H. Booth, Managing Partner of HBS, in a statement released by the firm. “Having previously spent more than a decade with our firm, Jim knows our people, our clients, and our commitment to exceptional service. His extensive experience in corporate transactions, business litigation, and tax matters will be a tremendous asset to our clients as they make complex business decisions and pursue opportunities.”
Corporate Experience and Representative Matters
Standard’s expertise involves organizing tax-friendly reorganizations and joint ventures, brokering commercial deals, guiding executive compensation choices, and acting for enterprises sold to private equity firms. Notable matters he has handled involve counseling an investment fund on buying farming and agribusiness assets worth upwards of $60 million, helping a manufacturing enterprise secure a $24 million credit facility, and aiding a global financial services institution with an acquisition that facilitated its entry into the United States market.
Alongside his transactional work, Standard has substantial experience in business litigation and tax controversies. His litigation background covers shareholder disputes, director and officer liability, restrictive covenants, trade secret misappropriation, and contractual disputes. The firm noted that this background provides insight into identifying potential risks and protecting client interests during transaction structuring and agreement negotiations.

Standard holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, alongside a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Finance originating from Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, complemented by a Juris Doctor awarded magna cum laude from the Georgia State University College of Law.
