Jaylen Brown’s status for Friday night’s matchup against the defending champion New York Knicks is officially in question after the Philadelphia 76ers added Brown to their injury report Thursday night with left knee soreness.
The contest at Xfinity Mobile Arena marks the opening game of a four-game stretch in East Group B of the 2026 NBA Cup. Brown has appeared in all of Philadelphia’s first five games of the season, holding a 4-1 record while logging 36.3 minutes per contest—a workload that ranked fourth across the entire NBA as of early Thursday evening. Through those outings, he has contributed 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Injuries and Rotation Adjustments
The Sixers continue to manage a heavily populated injury report alongside Brown’s new designation. Dominick Barlow remains sidelined with a lower back stress reaction, Jabari Walker is out due to left knee patellar tendinopathy, Tacko Fall deals with a left quadriceps strain, and Ariel Hukporti is out following a right Achilles tendon tear.
For the opening leg of Philadelphia’s back-to-back schedule, Joel Embiid and LeBron James both avoided the injury report entirely. The two stars previously split injury management responsibilities during the team’s back-to-back games last weekend.

Sixers Face New York Before Traveling to Charlotte
The Sixers secured their first victory of the season by defeating the Knicks on opening night. New York has since stabilized its early-season trajectory, bouncing back from an 0-3 start by winning its last two games against the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls.
Following Friday’s matchup in East Group B, the Sixers travel to face the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.
