New Mexico CNA Practice Test Standards and Exam Mechanics for 2026

Passing the New Mexico Nurse Aide Competency Exam requires following specific rules managed by testing vendor D&S Diversified Technologies, operating through Headmaster.

The written portion of the exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions delivered over a 60-minute window. To pass this knowledge test, candidates must achieve a score of 74% or better. According to the Headmaster New Mexico Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook (v6.1), checked October 30, 2026, the complete fee structure sits at $40 for the knowledge test and $100 for the skills evaluation, totaling $140. Candidates requiring accommodation can access an audio version for an additional $5, bringing that option to $45, alongside a Spanish version.

The examination limits candidates to three attempts within a 24-month window following the completion of their training program.

Exam Component Details Passing Requirement
Knowledge Test 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes 74% or higher
Testing Fees $40 knowledge + $100 skills ($140 total) Payment due per testing cycle

Passing the Strict Clinical Skills Exam

Beyond the multiple-choice questions, the practical component demands precision in a clinical setting. The skills exam requires candidates to perform three or four tasks chosen at random within a 30-minute limit. The first task is invariably one of the mandatory tasks with hand washing built directly into the procedure.

Scoring on the skills exam leaves little room for error. To pass, a candidate must perform every key, bolded step on the official checklist alongside at least 80% of the remaining steps for each assigned task.
