A 42-year-old North Charleston woman is facing a string of serious charges after police say she was clocked traveling 100 mph on Interstate 26 while intoxicated. Kadeshia Elaine Campbell was arrested early Friday morning following a traffic stop that revealed a blood alcohol concentration more than double the legal limit, according to reporting from WCSC.
The Traffic Stop on I-26
North Charleston police officers were patrolling the westbound lanes of I-26 near Remount Road around 2:15 a.m. when they observed an SUV moving at a high rate of speed. After pacing the vehicle, officers estimated Campbell’s speed at 100 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. During the stop, officers reported smelling alcohol coming from the vehicle and noted a small glass cup holder near the driver that appeared to contain scotch.
Campbell reportedly admitted to consuming a couple of drinks earlier in the evening. When asked about her speed, she told officers she was attempting to reach a restroom but had missed her intended exit. Officers observed that she was slurring her words and appeared significantly off balance when stepping out of the vehicle. Following standardized field sobriety tests, police determined her ability to operate a vehicle was materially impaired. A subsequent breath sample recorded a 0.18% blood alcohol concentration.

Charges and Legal Consequences
Campbell now faces a formal list of charges, including driving under the influence, speeding 25 mph or more over the posted limit, failure to maintain lane, and two counts of open container violations—one for beer and one for liquor. She was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center following the encounter.
This incident follows a separate, unrelated case in North Charleston involving impaired driving. Shakira Jones, 23, was arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase while driving a school bus with a child on board. Jones remains in the Al Cannon Detention Center with no bond issued, facing charges of driving under the influence, child endangerment, and failure to stop for law enforcement.
Public Safety on Charleston Roadways
The legal threshold for impairment in South Carolina is 0.08%, a limit Campbell’s breath test results reportedly exceeded by more than twofold.
The investigation into Campbell’s conduct on I-26 remains ongoing as she awaits further proceedings at the detention center.
