Federal Prison Term Handled Down in Madison
Davoris Anderson, 20, pleaded guilty to the federal charge on August 10, 2026. The 27-month prison term handed down by Judge Conley will be followed by three years of supervised release.
The December 2025 Investigation
The case stems from a December 11, 2025 incident when Madison police officers contacted Anderson regarding a theft complaint.
During the resulting investigation, an officer discovered a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun concealed in Anderson’s waistband.
Weapon Linked to State Shooting Charges
Investigators subsequently determined that the same Taurus G2C 9mm handgun was used in a shooting for which Anderson was later charged and convicted in state court.
At the time of the federal offense, Anderson was already on state supervision. Because of a prior felony conviction, he was legally prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
Sentencing Hearing and Prior Record
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Conley addressed Anderson’s juvenile record and noted that the defendant was also awaiting sentencing in state court concerning two separate shooting cases.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan prosecuted the case, which originated from an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department alongside the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force.
Task Force and Nationwide Initiatives
The task force combines federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with state and local law enforcement personnel throughout the Western District of Wisconsin.
Federal prosecutions involving illegal firearms and narcotics fall under the broader umbrella of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at targeting violent crime perpetrators. The federal charge was also pursued as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative that coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners to address violent crime challenges in specific communities.
