TellingPointy — News That Matters, Explained Clearly

Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council will provide the final financing necessary to support a manufacturing expansion at the John D. Rockefeller Industrial Park in Wyoming County. The state-backed investment paves the way for Oceanetics, a manufacturer specializing in maritime and defense technologies, to construct a new 15,000-square-foot facility in Pineville.

This project is expected to create 25 new full-time jobs, more than doubling the company’s current local workforce from 20 to 45 employees. The expansion project, which is managed by the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority (EDA), is scheduled to begin construction shortly, with operations in the new facility anticipated to commence by fall 2027.

Expanding Capacity for Maritime and Defense Production

Oceanetics, which acquired Truston Technologies in 2018, plays a specific role in the U.S. maritime supply chain. The company manufactures advanced buoy systems, port security technologies, and naval defense equipment. The upcoming expansion includes a $1.2 million capital investment in specialized manufacturing equipment, which the company expects will support roles in machining, welding, fabrication, and engineering.

West Virginia has the skilled workforce and resources to attract manufacturers that are creating good-paying jobs right here in our state. This investment will help Oceanetics expand its operations, create new opportunities for families in Wyoming County, and strengthen Southern West Virginia’s growing manufacturing economy. We’re committed to making sure businesses have the infrastructure they need to grow and succeed. — Governor Patrick Morrisey

Local Economic Impact in Pineville

For Wyoming County, the project is a major addition to the ongoing development of the John D. Rockefeller Industrial Park. Christy Laxton, Executive Director of the Wyoming County EDA, noted that the state funding provides the final piece of the financing puzzle required to move the project from planning to construction.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Morrisey and the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council for providing the final financing needed to move this project forward. This expansion allows us to support the growth of an established employer while creating new opportunities for skilled workers and strengthening Wyoming County’s manufacturing future. — Christy Laxton, Executive Director of the Wyoming County EDA

While the addition of 25 skilled positions is a localized gain, the facility’s focus on naval defense and energy security sectors positions the Pineville site within a niche industrial market. The project aligns with state efforts to use existing industrial park infrastructure to retain and expand established manufacturers.
