In a recent dispatch for her publication on portiaelan.substack.com, author Portia Elan announced an upcoming travel and event schedule that brings her to the Portland Book Festival this weekend, followed by a series of bookstore fundraisers and appearances in Miami.
Portland Book Festival Appearances
Elan’s weekend in Portland begins on Saturday, November 7, with a pair of public events. The first is a fifteen-minute creative pop-up scheduled for noon at the Portland Art Museum. Organizers paired her with a thematically appropriate painting for a brief session where she plans to make zines.
Later that afternoon, from 3:15 to 4:15 pm, Elan joins author Becky Chambers for a panel discussion titled Outer Spaces. Elan wrote that she experienced a small, happy panic attack upon learning she would share the stage with Chambers.
Noe Valley Bookstore Donates Book Profits to Feral Cat Charity
Parallel to the festival appearances, Noe Valley Books is organizing a fundraiser running from November 9 through November 14. During this window, 100 percent of the profits from orders of Elan’s book, Homebound, will go directly to Full Circle Cats.

The organization has previously helped local residents get roughly two dozen feral cats fixed. Customers who already own a copy of Homebound can choose from seventeen other titles on the bookstore’s fundraising list, with proceeds supporting a variety of Bay Area charities.
Upcoming Miami Itinerary
Following her time in the Pacific Northwest, Elan plans to spend Friday and Saturday in Miami, taking recommendations from readers for local sights and activities as she wraps up her current tour.
