The Portland Timbers will launch their 17th Major League Soccer campaign on Saturday, February 20, 2027, hosting the San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park in a match presented by Toyota, timbers.com reported.
Major League Soccer released the 14-game Sprint Season schedule, establishing a fast-paced format where every club plays its conference opponents exactly once. Teams will split their matches evenly with seven contests at home and seven on the road. This streamlined competition marks the league’s strategic transition toward a summer-to-spring calendar, aligning its competition timeline with major soccer leagues across the globe.
Diego Chara Enters Final Campaign With Commemorative Pin Series
The 2027 Sprint Season is the final MLS campaign for team captain Diego Chara. The Colombian midfielder originally signed with Portland as the club’s very first Designated Player ahead of their inaugural 2011 season.
During his 17-year tenure in the Rose City, Chara anchored the midfield through the club’s most successful eras. He helped guide the Timbers to an MLS Cup title in 2015, three Western Conference Championship trophies in 2015, 2018, and 2021, alongside the 2020 MLS Is Back Tournament championship.
To celebrate his historic tenure, the Timbers will honor Chara with a seven-match collectible pin series distributed throughout the Sprint Season home matches. The first 10,000 fans arriving at Providence Park for each home fixture will receive a unique pin, allowing supporters to complete the commemorative set across the schedule.
Portland Faces Cascadia Rivals Before Decision Day
Portland’s traditional regional rivalries arrive early in the spring calendar. The club travels north for its first Cascadia clash against Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field on Saturday, April 3. Two weeks later, the Timbers return home to host Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Providence Park on Saturday, April 17.
The 14-game regular season concludes with Decision Day on Saturday, May 8, when Portland hosts LAFC at Providence Park. All Western Conference fixtures will kick off simultaneously at 5 pm PT, broadcast globally on Apple TV with no blackouts.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top eight teams in each conference will advance to the single-elimination Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs. The postseason will crown conference champions who subsequently meet in the 2027 MLS Cup over Memorial Day Weekend. Beyond domestic silverware, performance across the Sprint Season directly determines qualification slots for both the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and the 2028 Leagues Cup.
