Wildcats Fall to Denmark in State Playoffs

The Richmond Hill volleyball team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs before finishing its season with a 29-10 overall record, according to a report by the Bryan County News.

The Wildcats wrapped up their postseason run after dropping a 3-2 decision to Denmark. Earlier in the tournament, Richmond Hill secured a 3-0 opening-round victory over Carrollton.

Managing Rebuilding Pains With a Young Roster

Head coach Danielle Ennis faced a rebuilding task at the start of the year following the graduation of 10 seniors. Despite entering the season with a younger roster and open questions regarding team chemistry, Ennis saw steady progression.

“Overall, this season has been a journey of growth, challenges, and learning for our volleyball team,” Ennis told the Bryan County News. She highlighted the positive impact of players stepping into new leadership roles and building mutual trust.

Sander and Anderson on Culture and Consistency

Reflecting on the campaign, junior co-captain Rae Sander pointed to consistent teamwork as a focal point for growth. “Honestly, I think we had a good season,” Sander told the Bryan County News. “There were many ups and downs, trials and challenges, wins and loses, but we fought together every time.”

Sander noted that the squad often waited until falling behind to elevate its intensity. “Something we could’ve executed better was how to best play together as a team and be consistent,” she said.

Senior co-captain Alexa Anderson expressed gratitude for her three years in the program. “The legacy I hope to leave behind is showing that hard work, overcoming obstacles and determination matters more than anything,” Anderson said.

Foundations Laid for Next Season’s Return

Looking ahead, Sander anticipates that the program’s large group of returning underclassmen will keep Richmond Hill competitive despite the departure of graduating seniors. Ennis shares that outlook, noting that the foundation established this year prepares the team to return with greater confidence next season.
