Rochester Americans Sign Forward Ryan Sandelin to Professional Tryout Contract
Forward Ryan Sandelin is heading back to the American Hockey League. The 27-year-old skater signed a professional tryout contract with the Rochester Americans, as FingerLakes1.com reported Tuesday following an announcement by Amerks general manager Stacy Roest. The move pulls Sandelin away from the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays right as he was hitting his stride in the early weeks of the 2026–27 hockey season.
Before packing his bags for Rochester, the Hermantown, Minnesota native put up heavy numbers in South Carolina. In just six games with the Stingrays, Sandelin notched five goals and one assist, anchoring the team’s offensive attack. According to the team’s official announcement covered by stingrayshockey.com, he led the Stingrays in goals, sat second on the roster with two power-play goals, and ranked fourth with 15 shots on goal before his promotion.
Sandelin Brings Extensive AHL and Collegiate Experience to Rochester
Sandelin is no stranger to the pace of the AHL. He arrives in Rochester carrying 149 games of experience at that level accumulated since the conclusion of the 2022–23 season. Across those appearances with the Colorado Eagles and the Iowa Wild, he has recorded 18 goals, 16 assists, and 255 total shots. His resume also includes three Calder Cup playoff games with Colorado.
Before turning professional, Sandelin spent four solid seasons at Minnesota State-Mankato from 2019 through 2023. During that collegiate run, he racked up 43 goals and 33 assists for 76 points across 128 games, helping the Mavericks capture back-to-back Central Collegiate Hockey Association championships during his junior and senior years. That performance followed a four-year junior hockey stint between 2015 and 2019 where he registered 39 goals and 33 assists with the Sioux City Musketeers, Bloomington Thunder, and Penticton Vees.
