Rowdy Tellez Elects Free Agency Following Braves Postseason Run
The carousel of Major League Baseball free agency is spinning once again, and a familiar power bat is officially back on the open market. Rowdy Tellez, best remembered in Wisconsin for anchoring the middle of the order during his standout tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers, elected free agency after finishing the 2026 season with the Atlanta Braves.
He also logged three appearances in the National League Division Series as the Atlanta Braves played the Los Angeles Dodgers.
From Milwaukee Peak to the Open Market
For baseball fans in Milwaukee, Tellez’s name still carries the weight of one of the most prolific power seasons in recent club memory. Acquired via a 2021 trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handers Bowden Francis and Trevor Richards, the first baseman carved out an enduring role during his three-season run with the Brewers.

His peak arrived during the 2022 campaign. Across 153 games, Tellez launched 35 home runs and drove in 89 runs. Over nine seasons in the majors, which included stops with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and Blue Jays, Tellez has accumulated 123 career home runs over 783 games.
A Changing Landscape for the World Series Champions
The timing of Tellez hitting the market coincides with a historic chapter in Milwaukee baseball history. The Brewers are fresh off capturing their first World Series title in the franchise’s 57-year history, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in five games. ESPN’s Jeff Passan captured the mood of the championship run, writing on October 28, FINAL: Brewers 4, Rays 1 For the first time, the Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions. They did it for Milwaukee, they did it for Wisconsin, they did it for Ueck, they did it for themselves. This was 57 years in the making. And it was pure, beautiful, dominant baseball.

While the Brewers celebrated their championship parade through downtown Milwaukee—highlighted by stellar seasons from returning roster pieces and contributors like NLCS MVP Jake Bauers—front offices across the league are already pivoting toward roster construction for 2027. Where Tellez lands next remains an open question as winter meetings approach.
