A Towering Red-and-Black Wool Replica Takes Over a Downtown Intersection
A downtown Portland vintage and apparel store has completed its oversized facade ensemble by unveiling what it bills as the world’s largest flannel shirt, KPTV reported. Shirtzenpantz, situated at the intersection of Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Washington Street, hosted a public unveiling celebration Thursday evening for the massive custom garment.
Crafted Locally in Partnership with Pendleton
Crafted entirely from authentic Pendleton wool, the red-and-black checkered piece measures approximately 9 feet wide by 13 feet long. The garment serves as an oversized replica of Pendleton’s classic Canyon Shirt, a signature wool style from the heritage brand. The monumental top was assembled locally in collaboration with the Portland Garment Factory.
Completing the Vision of a Giant Outfit
Ethan, a representative for Shirtzenpantz, explained the creative genesis of the project during an appearance on FOX 12. Following an outreach and partnership request from Pendleton, the concept took shape organically.
“What are pants without a shirt in ‘Shirtzenpantz’ right? We would love to assemble the world’s largest outfit,” Ethan said.
The shop already features a towering pair of denim pants spanning its entrance, where visitors regularly walk directly through the pant legs to enter the building. Store staff noted that the long-term goal is to place the newly unveiled flannel on permanent view, though finding adequate wall and ceiling space for both oversized garments presents a distinct architectural challenge.
Crowds Enjoy Brass Band Music and Free Food
Thursday’s public event drew crowds with live music performed by a brass band as the giant shirt was unfurled. Organizers provided free food for attendees, while a local referee stood on hand to keep the street-level festivities running smoothly.
Pending Logistics for Permanent Installation
No timeline has been finalized yet for when the 9-by-13-foot flannel will be permanently mounted alongside the entrance jeans. Store representatives confirmed that ongoing logistics regarding interior display space will determine when visitors can walk past both completed pieces of the oversized ensemble.
