The Spanish National Police has officially selected the Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0FC 9mm pistol as the issue pistol for its uniformed officers. Known locally as the PolicĂa Nacional, the civilian force handles urban policing, counter-terrorism operations, and immigration enforcement across Spain.
Pistol Survives Extreme Thermal and Durability Trials to Secure Contract
The Echelon 4.0FC secured the contract after surviving an extensive evaluation process managed by the evaluation team and represented during the procurement process by Lejarazu Sport SLU. Competing against offerings from multiple international firearm manufacturers, the pistol underwent intensive shooting accuracy assessments, barrel obstruction verifications, and parts interchangeability checks. Testers also subjected the firearm to durability trials across extreme thermal ranges, exposing it to temperatures from -4 degrees Fahrenheit to +122 degrees Fahrenheit alongside standard drop testing.
The evaluation team highlighted both the platform’s mechanical performance and its modular architecture. Introduced originally in 2023, the striker-fired, fully ambidextrous handgun was developed through a partnership between Springfield Armory and HS Produkt.

Springfield Armory and HS Produkt are extremely honored that the Echelon 4.0FC has been selected by the Spanish National Police to be the issued pistol for its uniformed officers, said Dennis Reese, owner and CEO of Springfield Armory.
Central Operating Group Allows Agencies to Move System Between Modules
At the mechanical core of the Echelon platform sits a patent-pending Central Operating Group. This self-contained and serialized stainless steel chassis allows agencies to move the core operating system between different grip modules in seconds. The platform also incorporates a Variable Interface System designed to accommodate a wide variety of red-dot optics directly onto the slide.
The specific 4.0FC variant selected by Spanish authorities pairs a full-size capacity of 17+1/20+1 rounds with a compact 4-inch-barreled slide assembly.

HS Produkt, in conjunction with Springfield Armory, spent years and countless hours meticulously developing and testing the Echelon platform pistol to be the ultimate duty pistol platform in existence, said Zeljko Pavlin, CEO of HS Produkt. Having the Spanish National Police select the Echelon pistol over the competition through the rounds of vigorous testing validates all that has been invested in the design and establishes the Echelon as the premier choice in duty pistols for government and law enforcement use.
