Terrence Gabie Charged for Recording Attack at Louisville Facility

A designated caretaker at a Louisville senior living center chose to record a 71-second video of a 92-year-old resident attempting to suffocate his wife with a plastic bag rather than intervene, according to Louisville Metro Police.

Arrests Made Following Senior Living Center Incident

Louisville Metro Police officers responded to the assisted living facility on Wednesday following a report of a domestic violence incident. Investigators found Bert Morris, 92, allegedly pinching his wife’s nose while placing a plastic bag over her face. Court documents from the arrest citation state that the bag could be seen sealing around the victim’s mouth and tightening around her head while Morris held her nose.

According to the citation, Morris made a statement at the scene that his wife “needed to die.” Another nurse ultimately intervened to separate the victim and Morris. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was unconscious.

Caretaker Recorded Attack Instead of Helping Victim

Terrence Gabie, 41, served as the victim’s designated caretaker during her time at the facility. Instead of assisting the victim, police and court documents state that Gabie recorded a 71-second video of the unfolding attack. Authorities arrested Gabie on Wednesday, charging him with knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.

WDRB+WAVE reported that both men appeared in court on Thursday for their arraignments. Bert Morris entered a plea of not guilty to charges of attempted murder and first-degree strangulation. A judge reduced his bond from $250,000 to $150,000.

Terrence Gabie also pleaded not guilty during his Thursday arraignment. The court set his bond at $10,000, and he was subsequently released on a personal recognizance bond.

Upcoming Court Dates

Both defendants face preliminary hearings scheduled for November 6, where prosecutors will present initial evidence to determine if the cases proceed toward trial.
