Travis Kelce Cleared for Broncos Clash as Chiefs Seek Control of AFC West
The Kansas City Chiefs are getting a pair of major offensive boosts just in time for a high-stakes divisional rematch. Tight end Travis Kelce has been confirmed available for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, according to a team update shared on X.
Kelce’s status had sparked unexpected concern earlier in the week when an injury report listed the veteran pass-catcher as limited due to a right ankle injury. That limited tag marked a sudden twist for a player whose remarkable durability has defined the Kansas City offense for over a decade. Since his breakout 2014 campaign, Kelce has managed to suit up for at least 15 games in every single season of his career, save for his 2013 rookie year.
Even as he plays through his 14th NFL season at age 37, Kelce remains the most stable component of an otherwise volatile Kansas City passing attack. Over six games this year, he has hauled in 24 catches for 343 yards and two touchdowns, tying for the team lead in receptions and commanding a wide margin in receiving yards.

An Offense Looking for Stability in Denver
The timing of Kelce’s clearance could not be more critical. The Chiefs enter Sunday’s matchup in the Rocky Mountains holding a narrow grip on the AFC West, though the surging Broncos sit just a half-game behind them in the division standings. When these two teams met back in Week 1, Kansas City cruised to a 31-10 victory fueled by a suffocating defensive performance against Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
Yet, the military offensive has changed significantly since September. While the Chiefs invested heavily in running back Kenneth Walker III to balance their attack—a move that has yielded strong results—the wide receiver room has faced continuous disruption. No. 1 wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sidelined since October 4 due to a hamstring problem, Xavier Worthy has struggled to find weekly consistency, and Tyquan Thornton recently suffered a serious ankle injury.

Amid those moving parts, Rice is also expected to return to the lineup for the Denver clash, according to Yahoo Sports reporting. While Rice’s return introduces a much-needed layer of vertical explosiveness, it does little to diminish the necessity of Kelce functioning as a reliable safety net over the middle of the field.
The Stakes at Mile High
Sunday afternoon’s contest is scheduled as the CBS marquee game of the week in the 4:25 p.m. ET time slot. With first place in the division hanging in the balance, both teams face a starkly different challenge than they did in their opening-week meeting. The Broncos have found their footing under Nix over the last month, transforming what once looked like an easy divisional cakewalk into a tight race.
Kelce managed to co-lead the team in receiving yards during last week’s tough loss to the Seattle Seahawks, proving that his production remains steady despite the physical toll of a 14-year career. Whether his ankle holds up under the rigorous demands of a hostile road environment will go a long way toward deciding whether Kansas City can fend off Denver’s divisional charge.
