Russian drone strikes hit Kyiv’s Northern Bridge on Saturday, damaging the roadway and trolleybus lines and forcing a closure. The attack follows consecutive days of bombardment on the city’s Southern Bridge, escalating a sustained air campaign against the Ukrainian capital’s vital Dnipro River crossings.
Northern Bridge Damaged by Overnight Drone Strikes
Russian forces targeted a second major span in Kyiv on Saturday morning, striking the Northern Bridge across the Dnipro River. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the strike on Telegram, reporting that emergency services were dispatched to the scene after air raid sirens warned of incoming aerial threats.
The impact damaged the road surface and severed overhead trolleybus wires, forcing authorities to shut the bridge to all traffic. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that the Northern road bridge was used to transport troops, equipment, and military cargo to Ukrainian forces.
Travel Disruption and Closures Across Kyiv’s Dnipro Crossings
Saturday’s strike on the Northern Bridge follows multiple attacks on the Southern Bridge on Thursday and Friday. Both spans serve as essential links connecting the eastern and western halves of the capital, which is home to approximately three million residents.
The consecutive bridge closures have triggered severe travel bottlenecks throughout the city. Metro and car travel across the Southern Bridge remain suspended, forcing commuters to seek alternative routes or complete their journeys on foot amid long lines of stalled vehicles and buses.

Municipal authorities enacted additional traffic restrictions across the capital following air raids that left one person dead and two others injured. Officials restricted vehicle movement on the Paton and Metro bridges on Friday, alongside temporary curbs on the Darnytskyi bridge.
City Leaders Urge Preparedness Amid Escalating Strikes
Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the security situation in stark terms as Russian bombardments brought ordinary urban life to a standstill.
