Google has announced a special open enrollment period for its device protection service, Pixel Care+, allowing existing owners of Pixel 9 and 10 series smartphones to secure coverage for their devices. This limited-time window, which runs through August 2, provides an opportunity for users who missed the standard enrollment deadline—typically 30 to 60 days after purchase—to add protection to their handsets.

The program is available to customers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. While Pixel Care+ serves as the successor to Google’s previous Preferred Care plan, the company specifies that enrollment is not available for devices that were previously covered by Pixel Care+, Preferred Care, or Google Fi Device Protection plans.

Eligible Devices and Enrollment Requirements

The open enrollment period applies to a specific list of devices. Eligible models include the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9a, 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10a. Notably, Google has excluded the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold from this offer, and the program does not extend to the Pixel Watch.

To qualify for coverage during this period, devices must be in good working condition. Google requires that phones be fully functional and free of pre-existing issues, including:

  • Physical Damage: Any cracks or shattered glass on the front screen or back casing.
  • Liquid Damage: Evidence of internal moisture or malfunctions related to liquid exposure.
  • Mechanical or Electrical Failure: Issues with charging ports, buttons, or internal components.
  • Battery Status: While the plan covers battery replacements for units retaining less than 80% of their original capacity, the battery must not be swollen or currently causing device failure at the time of enrollment.

Coverage Benefits and Service Features

Pixel Care+ is designed to provide protection beyond the standard manufacturer’s warranty, utilizing genuine Google parts for repairs. Key benefits of the service include:

How to protect your device with Pixel Care+
  • Accidental Damage: Unlimited claims for drops, spills, and cracks.
  • Zero-Deductible Repairs: $0 service fees for front screen and back glass repairs, as well as battery replacements for batteries dropping below 80% capacity.
  • Post-Warranty Support: Unlimited claims for mechanical and electrical malfunctions after the standard warranty expires.
  • Support and Logistics: Priority access to Pixel experts and expedited shipping for replacement devices, which typically ship the next working day, subject to availability.

In the United States, users may also opt for an additional Loss and Theft Protection plan. This add-on allows for up to two claims per year, though this specific coverage is not available to residents of New York. In the UK, customers can opt for loss and theft coverage that extends to three claims per year, subject to a £79 excess fee.

Pricing and Plan Options

Google offers flexible payment structures, including monthly plans or two-year upfront payments. Coverage is valid only in the country where the plan was purchased. In the U.S., monthly costs range from $6 to $13, while two-year plans range from $119 to $239, depending on the specific model.
