4 Maryland Men Charged in Burglaries of Fire-Damaged Fairfax County Homes

Fairfax County police have charged four Maryland men for a series of burglaries targeting homes left vacant due to fire damage between November 2025 and July 2026. Authorities allege the group systematically identified displaced families by monitoring news reports and fire department blogs to locate vulnerable properties.

The group is linked to five burglaries across four residences in Reston, Fair Oaks, and West Springfield. In November 2025, the suspects targeted a Reston home twice; after an initial attempt to steal a gun safe, police installed security cameras and captured the suspects returning 13 days later to steal the safe, which contained firearms, and a Porsche Macan from the driveway. The first attempt occurred Nov. 11, during which the suspects damaged a gun safe but took nothing. The Porsche was later located in Maryland. Additional break-ins occurred in May and July 2026 on Blue Steel Way, Bulova Lane, and San Carlos Drive, where the suspects stole purses, perfume, jewelry, headphones, a guitar, and cash.

Multi-State Investigation Links Four Suspects to Regional Burglaries

Detectives connected the crimes through digital evidence, video footage, and the tracing of stolen property. The investigation involved the FBI and law enforcement agencies from Loudoun County, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. According to investigators, the group’s criminal activity spanned from Connecticut to North Carolina.

Fairfax County Police Captain Richard Cash stated that regional partners reported similar burglaries involving the same four individuals. He explained that the suspects “did their research” and searched “any avenue they could to determine which house had burned and which families were displaced at the time.” Capt. Cash added, “We were able to link all five of our burglaries and these four suspects.” Investigators also recovered firearms taken during the burglary on Shellbark Place.

Community Reaction

Neighbors expressed outrage over the crimes, noting that none of the targeted homes are currently occupied. Sharon Bulova, former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair, lives near one of the homes and described the victims as “good neighbors.”

“It’s a shame that they had to move out. The house was vacant and for someone to take advantage of that tragedy is just unforgivable,” Bulova said.
