A Life Remembered on Pittsburgh’s North Side
At 82 years old, Virginia M. Brown left behind a sprawling family tree and a neighborhood community that knew her vibrant energy well. Born on November 6, 1943, she spent her life rooted in the North Side of Pittsburgh, building a legacy defined as much by her passion for local sports as by her devotion to those she loved. Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services reported her passing on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
For 54 years, she shared her life with her late husband, John Brown. Her household grew to include children John, Jill, and Jimmy, alongside their respective spouses, while also holding a permanent place in memory for her late son, Frederick. That immediate circle expanded across generations to encompass seven grandchildren—Frederick, Mathew, Joshua, Megan, Andrew, Alexa, and Gavin—and three great-grandchildren: Oliver, Amelia, and Chelsea. Family ties also linked her closely to her brother James Mook, following the passing of her other brother, John Mook.
A Feisty Spirit and Passionate Pittsburgh Pride
Those who crossed paths with Virginia recall a woman who approached daily life with a distinct feistiness and genuine enthusiasm. She held a special fondness for children, consistently finding joy in their laughter, energy, and smiles. Beyond her own household, her welcoming demeanor ensured neighbors and acquaintances felt instantly valued.

That same fierce passion poured directly into her fandom. As a dedicated supporter of Pittsburgh sports teams, she shared the highs and lows of the local franchises with anyone willing to watch or listen. It was a visible extension of her warm character—unapologetic, deeply engaged, and thoroughly invested in the community around her.
