Three Decades at the Heart of Douglas Schools
Mona Eileen (Bloem) Henson, a woman whose quiet presence defined the lunchrooms of Douglas, Wyoming, for more than thirty years, has died. She passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County at the age of 92, according to Gorman Funeral Homes.
A Life Measured in Anniversaries
Born in Wheatland on September 15, 1934, to Melvin Clayton “Breezy” Bloem and Arlene Vida (Schnase) Fowler, Mona was a lifelong fixture of Douglas. She attended Douglas High School and, on October 26, 1953, married Maurice Steve Henson. The two built a life together until Steve’s death on June 27, 2000. Mona carried his memory for the next twenty-six years.
Her own stewardship ended just one day shy of what would have been the couple’s 73rd wedding anniversary. She passed beneath the Hunter’s Moon, leaving behind a legacy defined by cinnamon rolls, gardening, birdwatching, and a fierce loyalty to Wyoming Cowgirls basketball.
A Matriarch of Five Generations
For Mona, family was the singular anchor. Her reach spanned generations; she experienced the rare joy of seeing three separate sets of five generations grow within her own family tree.
Her children include Jane (Phil Clair) Henson, Andy (Kathi) Henson, Tom (Brenda) Henson, and Ben (Brenda Ferguson) Henson.
