An Augusta man will spend the next 25 years in prison after a Lexington County jury convicted him of trafficking nearly half a kilogram of methamphetamine along Interstate 20.
Forty-one-year-old Angelo Allen received the quarter-century sentence following an October 8 trial that detailed a routine traffic stop turning into a major drug seizure. The case stems from a March 12, 2025, operation conducted by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team.
The Interstate 20 Traffic Stop and Seizure
Authorities pulled over Allen’s vehicle as he traveled from Augusta, Georgia, into Lexington County. During the encounter, Allen consented to a search of the automobile he was solely occupying and registering under his own name.
Subsequent testing confirmed that the search yielded 491 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators located the drug stash hidden under the passenger seat. Trial testimony later established that Allen was transporting the narcotics across state lines specifically to complete a local drug transaction.
Allen Had Prior Convictions for Drugs and Assault
Court records revealed that Allen brought a criminal history into the proceedings, featuring prior convictions for drug offenses, gun violations, and aggravated assault out of Georgia. At the time of the March 2025 traffic stop, he was actively serving probation for the aggravated assault conviction.
Assistant Solicitor Long emphasized the severity of the outcome in a statement, noting that the verdict highlights local prosecutorial and law enforcement partnerships aimed at removing dangerous substances from the community. Following the sentencing hearing, corrections officials transferred Allen to the South Carolina Department of Corrections to begin serving his 25-year term.
