The Return of Little Rock’s Southern Staple
In an interview, festival organizer Leah Patterson outlined the upcoming return of the Arkansas Cornbread Festival, scheduled for November 7 at 14th and Main Streets. After stepping away in 2025 to reassess its operational path following a 2023 pandemic comeback, the SoMa neighborhood gathering is returning with free admission, charitable tasting tickets, and a renewed emphasis on community involvement.
Cornbread holds a unique place in Southern culinary traditions. Patterson noted in the interview that the dish crosses income brackets and neighborhood boundaries without belonging to any single table.
Home Cooks Compete Alongside Professionals as Proceeds Benefit the Arkansas Foodbank
The 2026 iteration brings back the amateur cornbread contest, allowing home cooks to put family recipes and long-tested variations on the same stage as professional entries. Crowd voting and judges will determine the winners.
This year’s event also establishes a direct partnership with the Arkansas Foodbank. A portion of the proceeds from tasting tickets will go toward supporting the organization’s hunger-relief efforts across the state.
A festival built around food has an obligation to the neighbors who don’t have enough of it. That’s always been core to what this festival stands for. — Leah Patterson
Festival organizers have worked to coordinate with local brick-and-mortar businesses in SoMa to ensure the street-level event complements rather than disrupts neighborhood commerce. Past festivals have featured unconventional ingredients like jalapeños, sweet potatoes, and blueberries in competitor entries.
