Following an Arizona State rally that leveled the score at 17 late in the third quarter, No. 8 BYU pulled away to secure a 27-20 win on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.
The Cougars pulled away after Arizona State erased a 14-point deficit to tie the game at 17 late in the third quarter. BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier threw for 236 yards and a touchdown, orchestrating the decisive drives that ultimately kept the Sun Devils at bay.
Although Sun Devils signal-caller Jake Fette accumulated 166 passing yards and two scores by the end of the afternoon, the team still absorbed its third defeat on the road against a top-10 opponent this year. Fette experienced a turbulent start in his first career start, fumbling on the third play of Arizona State’s opening drive. Isaiah Glasker pounced on the loose ball at the Sun Devil 29-yard line, setting up BYU’s first touchdown.
Ironically, the Cougars struck gold following another fumble later in the game. Running back Sione Moa scooped up the ball after Bachmeier coughed it up inside the ASU 1-yard line and scampered over the goal line to put BYU up 7-0.

Arizona State’s Third-Quarter Rally
Fette engineered a dramatic comeback in the third quarter by throwing two touchdown passes as the Sun Devils wiped out BYU’s 14-point cushion. Arizona State converted three third downs on their first scoring drive, which culminated in Omarion Miller’s 20-yard touchdown catch.
The visiting offense kept the pressure on by converting two fourth downs on the ensuing drive, setting up Anthony Miller Jr.’s 1-yard scoring reception that knotted the score at 17. The momentum shift intensified when Adrian Wilson recovered a fumble by Kyler Kasper at the BYU 39-yard line, giving Arizona State prime field position to threaten the lead.

However, the BYU defense stiffened when it mattered most, blanking the Sun Devils entirely in the fourth quarter. A 45-yard field goal pushed the Cougars ahead for good, and Moa secured the outcome with a 1-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes remaining on the clock.
Next Up on the Schedule
Next week, BYU will hit the road to Salt Lake City for an in-state rivalry game against Utah. Meanwhile, Arizona State will return home to Tempe to host Colorado.
