Lowcountry animal shelters are teaming up with a cinematic icon to clear out kennels just as the holiday season approaches. Charleston Animal Society reported it is joining forces with Petco Love for a national pet adoption weekend scheduled on November 7th and 8th.
Meeting Adoptable Pets Across the Lowcountry
The weekend event matches local families with animals looking for permanent homes, timed right alongside the wide theatrical release of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s new full-length feature, The Cat in the Hat, which hits theaters on November 6. Charleston Animal Society will position adoptable pets at three distinct retail locations across the region.
Cats and kittens will greet potential adopters at the North Charleston Petco located at 7400 Rivers Ave. and the West Ashley store located at 975 Savannah Hwy on both November 7 and November 8. Meanwhile, dogs looking for homes will be hosted at the Petco Mount Pleasant location at 1501 Hwy 17 exclusively on November 8.
Petco Love President Chelsea Staley noted the thematic connection between the character and the mission of shelter adoption. “The Cat in the Hat reminds us that even an ordinary day can become something joyful,” Staley said. “Adopting a pet brings that same sense of fun and possibility into your life. Pets fill our homes with love, laughter, and moments of happiness we never could have imagined.”
Actor Bill Hader Stars in National Pet Campaign
The “Jump into Joy” campaign utilizes cultural touchstones, including a public service announcement featuring actor Bill Hader, who is a star and executive producer of the new animated film. National non-profit organization Petco Love backs the campaign, using a network that has historically helped find loving homes for more than 7.2 million pets in partnership with Petco and over 4,000 animal welfare organizations nationwide.
Since 1999, Petco Love has funneled more than $442 million into adoption and lifesaving initiatives for animal welfare organizations across the country, including those serving the Lowcountry.
