Columbus Westside Running Group Wraps Final Camp Chase Trail Cleanup Near Hague Avenue
Sweeping up debris and clearing overgrowth along a heavily used community path, members of the Columbus Westside Running Club completed their seventh and final Camp Chase Trail cleanup near Hague Avenue on Saturday, abc6onyourside.com reported.
The volunteer effort brought an end to a months-long stewardship initiative run alongside the group’s weekly Saturday morning workouts. The Camp Chase Trail stretches more than 12 miles from eastern Madison County to downtown Columbus, functioning as a vital local corridor within the larger 326-mile Ohio to Erie Trail network.
Beyond the Weekend Miles
While members utilize the paved path for regular training, the club’s footprint across the Hilltop neighborhood extends well past fitness routines. Volunteers have consistently stepped up to support area gatherings, assisting at the Columbus Marathon and organizing the Hilltop USA 5K event, which successfully raised $5,000 for veterans.
Beyond course maintenance and race support, the group provides free CPR and first aid training to local residents. Members also promote community health by visiting neighborhood businesses and raising funds for Nationwide Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Champions program during the Columbus Marathon.
Winter Time Challenge Ahead
With cooler autumn temperatures settling across central Ohio, the organization is pivoting its focus toward maintaining winter fitness. The club announced the upcoming launch of its Winter Time Challenge on December 21.
The three-month program is open to all members, offering participants a way to earn prizes by staying active through scheduled group runs and walks. The Columbus Westside Running Club hosts regular sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings, keeping membership free while providing coaching and support for runners and walkers of all experience levels.
