“I commend the Troopers assigned to our Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, along with our federal and local partners, for their coordinated efforts in bringing a fugitive wanted in two states into custody,” said Colonel Geoffrey Noble.
Massachusetts State Police apprehended 29-year-old Daquhan Cromer in Lowell at approximately 12:15 p.m. today. The arrest on Bowden Street ended a year-long period during which Cromer evaded capture after fleeing New Hampshire correctional custody while serving a sentence for assault, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Multi-Agency Operation
The apprehension was carried out by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS). They were assisted by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the police departments of Lowell and Methuen. Law enforcement agencies from both Massachusetts and New Hampshire utilized actionable information regarding Cromer’s location to coordinate the arrest.
Cromer Faces Multiple Assault Charges
Cromer was considered armed and dangerous. In addition to being wanted by New Hampshire authorities as a fugitive from justice, he faced charges in Massachusetts:
- Lowell Police wanted him for other offenses and assault with a dangerous weapon.
- Methuen Police wanted him for assault and battery on a child under 14.
As part of the search efforts, officials in New Hampshire ordered a shelter-in-place in Salem yesterday.
Law Enforcement Response
Colonel Geoffrey Noble, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, stated that the arrest demonstrates the professionalism and collaboration of the involved partners. He credited the coordinated efforts of the VFAS and federal and local agencies for bringing the individual wanted in two states into custody.
Colonel Noble added, “Our members work tirelessly each day to protect the public, reduce crime, and enhance the safety of our communities.”
“This arrest is a testament to the outstanding work of the Massachusetts State Police and the importance of strong partnerships across local, state and federal law enforcement,” said Governor Maura Healey.
Colonel Noble stated that the apprehension is “another example of their unwavering commitment to that mission.”
