Incumbents Lead Carson City Election Races with Furlong Winning 65%

Carson City voters delivered a wave of early leads for local incumbents on Tuesday, steering established leadership safely ahead as election night operations stretched into the early morning hours, the Nevada Appeal reported.

Early Leader Totals in Carson City Races

When the first wave of results dropped just after midnight on Wednesday, the numbers leaned firmly in favor of familiar names across municipal and educational offices. Long voting lines in Washoe and Clark counties had delayed the statewide release, as the Nevada Secretary of State prohibits publishing tallies until the very last person in line has cast a ballot.

In the high-profile race for Carson City Sheriff, incumbent Ken Furlong secured a commanding early lead over challenger Don Gibson, pulling in 65 percent of the vote compared to Gibson’s 35 percent. Meanwhile, in the contest for Ward 3 Supervisor, incumbent Curtis Horton gathered 10,519 votes, holding a 1,610-vote advantage over challenger Mayita Sanchez, who recorded 8,909 votes.

School district trustee races reflected a similar pattern. Lupe Ramirez led challenger Adam Heinz by 1,700 votes, drawing 10,463 total ballots in her favor.

Garrit Pruyt and Kelly Brandon Secure Early Leads

Judicial races also brought decisive early figures. Garrit Pruyt, the current Carson City district attorney, captured a 65 percent majority over Gene Munnings, setting the stage for Pruyt to take over Department 3 judge. To fill the impending vacancy in the district attorney’s office, Kelly Brandon, currently serving as chief deputy district attorney, built a lead of more than 2,000 votes over challenger David Bailey by Wednesday morning.

Regional legislative seats covering Carson City alongside parts of Washoe County and all of Storey County saw Republican candidates move ahead. In the race for Assembly District 40, Julie Butler led Oscar Fuentes by 2,100 votes. For State Senate District 16, Lisa Krasner built a 4,000-vote advantage over challenger Chrystal Roll.

Local Officials Win Re-Election as Thousands of Ballots Remain Uncounted

Several local officials secured new terms without facing challengers on the ballot. Assessor Kim Adams, Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen, Treasurer Andrew Rasor, and Supervisor Stacey Giomi were all re-elected running unopposed, alongside school board members Richard Varner and Molly Walt, and Judges Jason Woodbury and Kristin Luis.

These early percentages are far from final. Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen noted Wednesday morning that roughly 2,100 physical ballots, alongside mail-in envelopes still arriving at the office, remain to be processed and counted.
