Montpelier Annexes 27 Acres for Low Density Residential Zoning

Montpelier City Council Approves 27-Acre Annexation for Valley View Drive

The Montpelier City Council formally approved Ordinance No. 694 on October 21, 2026, annexing approximately 27 acres of real property located east of Valley View Drive and north of Christensen Road in Bear Lake County, Idaho. The municipal action brings the contiguous parcel into the corporate limits of Montpelier under an R-2 Low Density Residential zoning designation.

The annexation stems from a formal request submitted by property owner ATP Investments, LLC. The City Council determined that the addition serves the public interest by promoting orderly growth, establishing initial land use compatibility, and facilitating the future extension of municipal utilities and services to the area.

Montpelier Extends Municipal Services and Code Enforcement to Annexed Acreage

Under the provisions of Ordinance No. 694, the newly incorporated acreage falls under the operational umbrella of Montpelier’s municipal infrastructure. The annexation plan approved by the council outlines the eventual delivery of police, fire, public works, and utility services as determined by city capital planning and administrative policy.

From the effective date of the ordinance, the property is subject to all local ordinances, subdivision regulations, building codes, and zoning restrictions enforced within the Montpelier city limits. Idaho Code sections 50-222 and 67-6525 governed the procedural requirements for the annexation, including notice and public hearing obligations managed prior to final adoption.

Mayor Signs Annexation Measure for Immediate Legal Enactment

The city council voted to waive the traditional three-reading rule after finding that an administrative necessity and public interest existed for the immediate passage of the ordinance. Mayor Theodore Slivinski signed the measure, alongside City Clerk Michelle Singleton, who was directed to file certified copies of the enactment with the Bear Lake County Recorder.

City officials will update the official municipal maps and zoning designations to reflect the inclusion of the 27-acre parcel. The ordinance takes full legal effect following its passage, approval, and official publication.
