Jamie Lynn Schuster, Gurley Resident and Real Estate Owner, Dies

Jamie Lynn Schuster, a dedicated community leader in Gurley, Alabama, passed away on October 22, 2026, marking the end of a resilient two-decade journey with breast cancer. Her life, documented by the Laughlin Service Funeral Home, reflects her professional tenacity and deep-seated civic commitment. For those who knew her, Jamie was more than just a real estate professional; she was a fixture in the local school system and a persistent advocate for the causes she championed.

From Rochester Roots to Alabama Real Estate

Born in Rochester and raised in East Syracuse, New York, Jamie’s professional path was defined by a steady transition from clinical medicine to the high-stakes world of real estate. After graduating from East Syracuse Minoa High School in 1978 and earning a Medical Assistant Degree from Alfred State College, she initially built her career in the cardiovascular labs of Upstate Medical Center. Her marriage to Tom Schuster in 1981 launched a series of relocations that eventually led the couple to Huntsville, Alabama, where she would spend the next seventeen years embedding herself into the fabric of the local community.

In Huntsville, Jamie’s focus shifted toward the domestic and educational spheres. She became a constant presence in school organizations, serving on numerous PTA boards and taking on leadership roles as a Band Booster Vice officer and Theater booster club President for two years. Her hands-on approach—often involving the practical work of sewing costumes for high school theater productions—earned her a reputation as a reliable, active volunteer.

Building a Legacy in Business

By 2004, Jamie turned her attention toward the real estate industry. Her trajectory culminated in 2014 with the establishment of Quest Real Estate, a woman-owned firm where she served as a managing partner alongside her husband, Tom, who acted as the broker. In an industry where trust and local reputation are the primary currencies, the Schusters built a firm recognized for its integrity, a significant feat in a market that has seen intense fluctuation over the past decade.

In communities like Gurley and the broader Huntsville area, independent firms like Quest Real Estate have established a reputation for excellence and integrity within the industry.

Remembering a Life of Service

Jamie’s battle with cancer was long and marked by what her family describes as a consistently positive attitude. Her influence extends beyond her immediate family to the many students and parents she interacted with during her years of volunteer work. She is survived by her husband, Tom; her son, Matthew and his wife, Hayley; her daughter, Lauren; her mother, Veronica Faucher; and a wide circle of siblings, nieces, and nephews.

The Jamie Lynn Foundation has been established to honor her memory, focusing on cancer research and providing life-changing experiences for those currently undergoing treatment. For more information, supporters can visit the Jamie Lynn Foundation.

The logistical details for those wishing to pay their respects are set for early November. Visitation is scheduled at the Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with a service to follow in the chapel at 4:00 pm, officiated by Rob Seitz. As the community gathers, they do so with the knowledge that Jamie’s impact was not found in grand gestures, but in the sustained, daily contributions that hold a neighborhood together.

In the face of long-term health challenges, the decision to continue building a business and serving the community speaks to a specific kind of resilience. As the Huntsville real estate market continues to evolve, the firm Jamie and Tom built remains a chapter in that story. It is a reminder that behind every business license and every community board seat is an individual whose personal narrative is inextricably linked to the place they call home.
