Kissler Family Donates Land for New Riverfront Park

The Garden City community is gaining a new 1.2-acre public park along the Boise River corridor, following a land donation from the Kissler family, owners of Norco, Inc., as announced by city officials.

Property Links Pond to Greenbelt

The property sits on the southwest corner of Glenwood Street and Riverside Drive, fronting Riverside Pond and connecting directly to the Greenbelt. According to idahonews.com, the city intends to name the future park in honor of the Kissler family.

Family Honors History with Community Gift

“Garden City has been an important part of our family’s history, and we wanted to give something back to the community that has meant so much to us,” Jim Kissler said in a news release. He added that the family hopes the property becomes a gathering place for families, children, and future generations.

City Leaders Praise Rare Acquisition Opportunity

Mayor Bill Jacobs called the transaction an incredibly generous gift. As the community continues to grow, opportunities to acquire land for public parks become increasingly limited, city officials noted.

“The Kissler family’s generosity gives us a unique opportunity to create something special that will benefit residents and visitors for decades to come,” Mayor Jacobs said in the news release.

Planning and Future Area Enhancements

While no opening date has been set, the city envisions planting new trees, including sequoias and other pines, to complement the surrounding pond, river, and Greenbelt setting. Future planning will involve evaluating design concepts, potential amenities, development costs, and funding opportunities, with the city anticipating private donations and community partnerships to help support the project’s development.
