Burglary Call Triggers Hours-Long Standoff
A West Fargo man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly entering a vacant home, sparking an hours-long standoff that brought out the Red River Valley SWAT Team, evacuated neighboring residences, and required a bomb squad to clear suspicious items, valleynewslive.com reported.
Felony Charges Filed Against 24-Year-Old Suspect
Logan Aaron Abrahamson, 24, faces felony charges of criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and impersonating an officer following the incident in the 400 block of 20th Avenue East, according to the West Fargo Police Department. Investigators noted that additional charges could follow as the investigation unfolds.
Initial Negotiations Give Way to SWAT Response
The situation began around 1:45 p.m. when local officers received a call reporting a burglary in progress at an unoccupied house. Upon arrival, authorities identified the suspect as an individual already known to law enforcement from prior interactions. Armed with information that Abrahamson was potentially armed, responding officers attempted initial negotiations rather than immediately forcing entry.
When those discussions failed to resolve the situation, police escalated the response and called in the Red River Valley SWAT Team. Following tactical commands issued by the specialized team, Abrahamson exited the residence voluntarily and without further incident.
Bomb Squad Clears Suspicious Items From Area
During a subsequent sweep of the immediate area, officers discovered multiple suspicious items. Local residents living nearby were notified and safely evacuated as a precaution while authorities secured the perimeter. The Red River Valley Regional Bomb Squad was subsequently brought to the scene to remove the items safely.
Multi-Agency Operation Ends Without Reported Injuries
Police have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the recovered items. The Fargo Police Department, the SWAT team, and the regional bomb squad all assisted the West Fargo Police Department during the operation.
